Telescopic Fruit Pickers
« on: July 11, 2017, 18:33 »
Does anyone have any recommendations for telescopic fruit pickers? I've never had to pick fruit in any quantity before but I certainly will have to this year.

I've seen some from a company called Darlac for around £50 and some that are cheaper.

That's only 5 1/2 feet long - hardly seems worth it.

I cut the bottom off a 2lt water bottle, cut a notch in it for stubborn apples and taped the bottle to an 18ft window cleaning pole. if you don't need too much extra reach a broom handle would do.

Fishing telescopic fibreglass landing net handles are cheap then just make a net or plastic bottle picker head with stalk slots.

Bound to be somebody with a diy version on youtube.

Thank you every one for your replies

I have always been a bit wary of tools that have multi use "heads" but I'll give the Wolf one a go

I have the Wolf apple picker attachment.  It's a sturdy piece of work; you can get about 3 apples in the bag at a time if you want.

Like all similar design pickers, it's a little brutish in removing the apple from the tree if the apple isn't fully ready to detach.  It takes a few mm of the woody stem as well as the apple.  But it's been a Godsend for me and my apple tree, which must be 40 years old at least, and about 80% of the fruit is almost impossible to pick from the ground otherwise.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Ours is on a slightly  ::) shorter window cleaning pole, but that's ours.   :)  Water bottle picker works for damsons too, which are high and fiddly to pick.
