I've been looking forward to my blackcurrant crop, but yesterday I noticed about 1/2 the currants are an odd sepia like colour, and are dropping to the ground, when i tried one it tasted nasty ( very bitter).
Having googled this, it seems it's "run off" and caused when  unpollinated flowers turn into berries.
Is this correct? is anyone else experiencing this?

Run-off can also be caused by cold weather, lack of water and diseases such as mildew.

Thanks Aunt Sally, weather has been hot for last week or so, but of course early and mid spring were cold, which in our allotment also resulted in few bees.

Are they sepia on one side only. If so they are probably sunburnt. I had the same problem with some gooseberries after the intense sun we had for those few days.

If I recall they are sepia on both sides, but I'll check when I'm next there and report back.
