I don't see why F1 seeds should command a 'premium' as I consider open-pollinated varieties better because they come true to type and you know what you'll be getting. There are also the arguments of keeping old strains alive, genetic diversity and not being held ransom by the large seed companies in the future when one saves seeds.

Well, due to a misprint, I bought some Floridity tomatoes which I found out after I saved the seeds were F1, so will be interesting to see how they turn out next year, but that's terrible that they are selling these seeds as F1 when they are not, but then that's the way of these companies isn't it?

I never listen to adverts and certainly don't buy something because an advert says its good.  I think they are just a waste of time, but then that leads on to another thread!!!! lol

It's a new interest of mine, and I've found some good links:

Terre De Semences: http://www.organicseedsonline.com/

HDRA (seen it mentioned here sometime ago) http://www.gardenorganic.org.uk/

Many seed catalogues offer older varieites - look for 'heritage', 'heirloom', 'open-pollinated' types
