Raised bed, blue hoops and bags of spuds
« on: April 13, 2017, 16:08 »
Well suddenly things are on the move  :D

The plan for the raised bed is well on now, a few seedlings planted, spinach, rocket, leeks, lettuce, pac choi  :)
all protected from the local pheasant population by some netting and blue pipe donated by a mate  ;) We have a large shooting estate just across the field, we get lots of escapees around here  ::)
The potatoes were in the greenhouse until recently, but there's fleece there ready to cover up each night if needed,
so far very pleased with the project, loads of things in the greenhouse to move soon.
Then in with the tomatoes in airpots and an irrigation system

Loving the hoops, what distance to you have in between each one. I have 8' raised beds and I'm hoping I can get away with 2 per bed

Hoops are 4 ft apart and the bed is 4ft wide. The pipe is cut into 66 inch lengths.

The pipes are held in position by screws into timber blocks so they can be easily removed.

Hope this helps  :)

Well, the spud bags have been a tremendous success so far  :D

Both bags of first earlies cropped fairly well, the earliest one that had been planted very early (mid Feb) not quite as good as the second bag, although both had been in the greenhouse for starters.
The charlottes have been spectacular, brilliant crop.

Raised bed, over enthusiastic and sowed too much and a bit close, however had several thinning out sessions and now have more sensible spacings, after all there are only two of us
