Canker
« on: October 03, 2012, 17:34 »
Hi guys long time no post. I need some help and advice. I'm looking after my friends Buff Orpington cockerel called Barry. He is absolutely gorgeous and amazing to handle thank god. We think he used to be a show cockerel. Not positive on his age but he is over 3. Anyway he has canker and he has been to vet had metranizadol, nystatin, baytril and metacam. So far he has been having treatment for about 14 days. He appears much better in himself eating and drinking but he still has the cream coloured gunky thing in his throat. Anyone else got any advice for me or can I try and remove it with a long tweezers and very very carefuly. What's the Thoughts

I am fairly sure I read somewhere that attempting removal was a bad idea

Also I think I read somewhere that creamy coloured stuff in the throat is not always canker, but (I think) is another side affect of a common disease, which is bought on by stress.

Although I am sure you are more than kind, moving house is a very stressful time even for adult humans who know what is going on, so it may be something to do with that

I wish I could remember the links but at present they ellude me

I would just stick with the vet stuff and hopes he gets better when your friend takes him back

PS if it is canker it is highly contagious via water drinkers, so take care he is completely isolated.
I love my traditional clean legged English Cuckoo Marans

He's been with me about 6 months and it's a permanent holiday. He had it before about 2 years ago but the meds cleared it up that time.
