Mower Blade . . . .
« on: May 08, 2008, 10:01 »
Re my other post, it is a mountfield, not that this should make any difference to my question i dont think  . . . . .

the blade is secured underneath by a single long bolt about 10/12/mm diameter or so, with a large heavy washer. using it yesterday i came across a couple of times over thick grass/ heavy ground where the machine stopped and the bolt was coming loose - (works fine on a flat lawn)

should this have some sort of anti vibration washer on it ???

as i stated in the other post it is the girlfriends machine inherited from her late father so i dont know what should actually be there, she got it back as it is.

thanks

dave

Hmm, it shouldn't come loose like that.
The blade boss, ( bit that blade bolts onto ) is keyed onto the engines crankshaft. IS it still keyed?, more to the point, have you got a blade boss?
the normal set up would be (in this order) bolt, spring washer, larger washer, blade, blade boss and key, finally crankshaft.

cheers graham,

yes the boss is brand new - bought it to get it going in the first place if you remember, you and dori both told me it wouldn't start properly without the blade fitted.

you've answered my question anyway, i aint got a spring washer just a large flat heavy washer so that will have gone missing when it was last loaned out  . . . . . . .

i'll find one  . . . . .   :D

thank you
