Has anyone ever used these for preserving, I bought a lot of the coffee when it was BOGOF.

Does the plastic insert make it sufficiently air tight for jams, chutneys etc.

Would just like to know in case I go all "Mrs Beeton" next year.

PS: the lids make great tea light holders.

I have used them succesfully for smoked garlic in olive oil.  There is a technique for closing the jar which develops quite a good seal.  Put on the lid, then push it sharply to one side and downwards at the same time.  You should hear air being expelled & will obtain a noticeably better seal.

Haven't used them for jams/chutneys but I would see no problem with doing so.

I shall hang on to them then, you never know when the chutneying bug may strike.
