Borlotti Beans - still time to develop?
« on: October 29, 2017, 13:12 »
I tried growing Borlotti beans this year for the first time. The plants took a little time to establish the shot up and have developed lots of pods. However, a fair number of these haven't developed Beans yet, and are still flat. (I think the plants were planted a little later than they should have bean 😀)

Bearing in mind it's now the end of October, and I'm on the east of Central Scotland, are these likely to develop or should I just dig up and compost?

Hmm, not sure you’ll get any beans, but you could try cooking the pods like runner beans, that’s what I do early on in the season, yours might be a bit tough now, but only 1 way to find out

The plants answered my question! Went down this weekend and they were all dying back. Guess the first frost saw them off

Try again next year... I had a small but tasty crop this year, well worth it!
