Wilting tomato plants
« on: July 03, 2011, 19:54 »
Hi

Over the last few days my tomato plants have started to curl and wilt from the top down. There are just under a meter high, no flowers as yet (Iplanted slightly late)
They are in growbags in a polytunnel.

I can see no signs of damage to the stalks, there are no colour changes, no leaves dying etc, just simply curling up on themselves and the whole plant collapses.

I water regularly and have just caned them.

Could it be the heat we have had lately? I water daily, is it a sign of watering too much or too little? Or is a disease?

Any help appreciated, many years since I grew tomatoes.

Hmm... I had a similar problem a couple of weeks ago, where I thought the whole plant was going to completely collapse, after all the leaves began curling up.... it appeared to be due to poor ventilation, and after I sorted that out, the plants began looking strong and healthy again!!

Make sure there is plenty of good ventilation and keep a close eye on them for changes... unless anyone else might know what the problem is!?!

There can be many causes of tomato leaves curling, and heat can indeed be one of the causes.

Could you edit your forum profile (click your username) to show your general location, as it is often relevant when providing an answer?

Any chance of a piccie?
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Heat, ok, I will make sure they get better ventilation.
