Best way to roof a shed
« on: May 26, 2010, 19:23 »
I replaced the roofing felt on my beloved shed about 5 years ago but it's now dried out, split, and curling up in places (especially the places which have been attacked by magpies! ). In other words it needs urgent repair or more likely replacing yet again.

Has anyone used something other than standard roofing felt and found that it is either easier, cheaper, or better? (preferably all three!)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

Why not try a 'green' roof!

EPDM is the answer.I've just put it on my shed roof.Green roofing requires extra strengthening due to the extra weight

What about some asphalt shingles? We do our houses here with them and match sheds to the house shingle colour. I'm sure you could find a few leftover packets at a shop for a good price. Standard shingles last 25 years. You'd just need some roofing nails to attach them.

don't think I've ever seen shingles in any building stores here...... but they were on Grand designs once so they must be available...

They are available - I have a customer who has used them on one side of his stables. But they were NOT cheap !!

Thanks guys,  EDPM doesn't look as if it would be very easy to get hold of, shingles are available but bloomin' expensive.

I'm now thinking of corrugated bitumen roofing from Wickes, (available in green; nice!) although the essential ridge pieces are showing out of stock!

Is this something any of you have tried?

The EPDM is available in some builders merchants in the North as far as i'm aware.Cant remember who but the internets a marvellous tool. If not Give Plytech a call as they supply to the merchants and should be able to give their details
