chicken poo
« on: December 27, 2008, 12:17 »
Am bit worried as have just noticed my little ranger what looks like straining to poo and what came out was very yellow. Looked at photos (very useful!) and it appears to be normal. Can anyone advise? Clara is 6 months old - not yet laying but in very good condition.
thanks xhx
Hellooo! I am new to this site and relatively new to keeping chickens but what fun we are having! would love more and hubby coming around to my way of thinking! Kids in love with them!

Could she be straining to pass an egg :?

Has she eaten today?
Drinking?

Is she moving around or sat huddled up ?

Thanks for welcome and suggestion! I suppose she could be trying to pass an egg - she is moving around ok and seems to be eating and drinking fine - she is definately not huddled up  - I thought of that from past reading of chicken books! Will keep an eye tomorrow n let u know if any change - have gone to bed now!
What hens do you have? We have 1 x ranger (Clara), 1 x rhode rock (Barbara), 2 x speckldy's (Margot and Clucky), 1 x Barnvelder (Cindy) and 1 Welsummer (Penny). Kids named most of them - can u tell!?!
thanks

Hi Freda

She would appear quite dull if she was egg bound, sitting around etc... So prob best to keep a close eye and see what tomorrow brings :D

As for my birds well I have :
2 light Sussex, 3 Leghorns, 7 Buff Orpingtons, 2 Barnevelders, 2 Polands, 4 Guinea Fowl, 5 Geese & 12 Ducks (5 Runners, 4 Call & 3 white Mallard crosses)
And a Boubon Red Turkey called Paxo

I think that's everyone :?

Sarah :D

Hi!
You certainly have your hands full with all your girls (and boys I presume!)Great fun reading your blog - Is Paxo for breeding, pet or table?! Sorry if I offend you with the latter - certainly don't mean to but am from a very upfront upbringing! It's also what my kids would ask with a certain degree more innocence than myself of course!
Will have a good look at Clara's poo tomorrow - it may be she's been greedy with the pears I put out for them!

The pears might just be doing it , best not to over do these things :D

Not at all offended by your question re Paxo :) He/she is a pet was hoping for more than one but the others didn't make it, will be getting some eggs for hatching asap so he/she will have more company :D

Thanks for reply Sarah, sounds like fun raising Turkeys - are they as quirky as chickens?
