Finished planting toms...............
« on: May 22, 2016, 14:42 »
...........for now, although I may have a shortage this year as I only managed to get 26 plants in the greenhouse together with a couple of La Diva Cucs.

4 x Tigerella
4 x Pink Brandywine
4 x Big Boy
4 x bl@@dy Butcher
4 x Sub arctic plenty
4 x Marmande
2 x Alicante

There is still space in the other greenhouse though.   ;)

I have greenhouse envy now

Mine is only a small greenhouse but I could adjust very easily to fill that, no problem ..... and a second one as well for that matter   ;)

No. Below the side beds it's just hardcore with weedmembrane and an inch of gravel.

How many are you catering for?

Most of them will be frozen for use in Italian/Indian/chillie con carne type meals during the winter.

What a lovely greenhouse!

I finished planting the toms today as well, but mine are mostly outside - Blush, Moneymaker, Summer Cider, Dancing with Smurfs, Matt's Wild Cherry, Christmas Grape, Red Zebra, Marvel Stripe, Sandpoint  ... three of each.

And yes I do hope for lots of tomatoes as I try to make our whole year's supply of sauces and chutneys from them, as well as loving to eat them fresh

I put in some toms seeds indoors & they seedlings are about 6 inches tall.  I want to continue growing them in pots. Are they ready to go outside in bigger pots ( how big ) ?
Is it ok to put seeding trays outside in this weather in London ?
Thanks

Twelve inch pots or those black florists' buckets with holes made in them will give the plants plenty of space simbamara.  At six inches tall they can go in these now... and plant them nice and deep, even up to their first pair of true leaves (Take these off if you need to) as they will grow extra roots from their stem really quickly

Have planted ours in the cut flower pots from the supermarket . Not the strongest 'pots'  managed to damage one while planting on.  From a watering perspective , have drilled holes about 1 - 2 inches from the bottom to create a reservoir. Looking forward to proper tomatoes!!
we also rescue rabbits and guinea pigs, grow own veg

It's my fave time of year, getting all the toms, cucs and chillies in place. Given up on aubs  :D

Lovely looking, well organised greenhouse there. If it's owt like mine you won't be able to move up and down in there soon, you'll be reversing out  :D

Hope to finish putting mine in their final homes today.   Some outside in pots at home, some in beds and pots outside at the allotment but most in the allotment polytunnel.   I put the bush varieties outside in the ground.  This year I am growing:
Aurora
Gardener's Delight
Aranyalma
Clibran's Victory
Latah
Lima Korai
Summer Cider
Blush
Sandpoint
Tigerella
Green Zebra
Cyril's Choice
Greek
Rio Grande
Burpee's Jubilee
Red Cherry
Black Cherry
White Cherry
Stupice
Cuban Flower
Gartenperle
Essex Wonder
Konig Humbert
Golden Grape
Orange Banana
Sungold
Tomate de Colgar

Growing 2 of most, although some (Gardener's Delight, Orange Banana, Aurora, Green Zebra) only have 1 survivor.   Somehow I have ended up with 4 each of Greek and Summer Cider and 5 Rio Grande.

There are a similarly ridiculous number of peppers in the polytunnel, along with 3 cucumbers, a melon and 4 aubergines.  It's a tight squeeze!
