does a hen go broody if you leave a egg in its nest or does it happen naturally. Also what time of the year does it happen
33 chickens and 2 lil call ducks woohoo

when a bird goes broody its nature .she will sit on her egg and then stay tight as she lays the next one etc etc . she will even growl at ya , if you have no cockerel and or dont want to breed take them away each day as normal  you can stop her going broody by dunking her belly in cool water

My Hattie went broody last May time. dunked her in a bucket of water a number of time, all to no avail.  Turned her off the nest and she just improvised one in the run  :roll:

Some recommend giving a broody hen a clutch of ice cubes to sit on. Do you think that might work muntjac  :?:

I just left her to get on with it.  The picture of her in my Avitar was taken while she was broody.  That's why she was all fluffed up and looking grand  :roll:

when the hen wants to is the best way  if you have a cock bird n he is doing his bit then you can lether sit now .i have a pheasant laying eggs daily  she wil sit as soon as she gets enough but im nicking them  if your not wanting them till march just keep taking the eggs .when you are ready just let he be .
