Khaki Campbell Ducks
« on: May 12, 2012, 22:24 »
I'm considering getting a couple of these ducks for their eggs.  Does anyone have any experience with them?  I understand they average around 300 eggs a year!
When I die I will slide in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand and chocolate in the other, screaming, "Whooo hooo!  What a ride!" as life is to be enjoyed to the fullest!

I've had Campbells (I had white ones) and have to say mine never laid that well. The best strains do lay that well but finding them can be the trick and of course they only lay that well for the first year or so. My best layer is a Campbell/Cayuga cross and she is still laying from March to Dec in her third year.

The main thing that put me off Campbells is how nervous they are.
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

Oh dear  :( nervous.  Well, perhaps not then.  My husband's itching to put a good sized pond in our front garden and my hens are past laying so my mind was ticking away.  Perhaps I should forget about the eggs and consider a few ducks for personality.  I love those ones with a puff on their heads, but I don't know what they are called.  Thank you for the 'heads up'!

Runner shaped ducks with a crest are also called Bali ducks.
