« on: May 30, 2015, 12:58 »
Hi all, I have recently had problems with my fig trees, I know the use of pesticide may effect the fruiting and also harm beneficial insect. How can I get rid of the caterpillars I have on my trees? please see the photos and help me with a harmless remedy.

Growing is a waiting game, with that first blossom all the time and hard work is a distant memory.

How many trees do you have?

Would it be feasible to pick them off by hand (wear a glove in case they are toxic).

I have around 60 trees (about 6 to 7 feet), I can pick them off by hand but is this an ongoing issue? Would I have to repeat this all summer?

I would not think so. Most moths (and this looks like a moth caterpillar) only have one, or at most two broods in the year, so once you have dealt with them, that should be it for the season.
