Did I kill the blight?
« on: September 01, 2012, 08:38 »
Thought I was immune after 20 yrs with no problem, but found blight a few weeks ago on my GD toms in spite of full ventilation. Kept removing the worst leaves and kept the wind blowing through, even left the ghouse open on warmer nights. Now I find the patches on the leaves have turned dry and brittle and appears to have stopped spreading. Only a few of the fruit have suffered though they are slow to ripen this yr so I might lose more yet.

I really need advice re next year - will the spores hang around? Would a sulphur candle kill it?

I thought mine was blight too, but now thinking is Botrytis.
However, same question as Bernard, will a sulphur candle do the trick if either blight or Botrytis? I've always had good yields in the greenhouse and this year the tomatoes have been very poor. So much so, that I am stripping most of them out today as they have all but finished. Seems really early to be doing this as I assure they went in for much longer last year.  :(
I have my own cement mixer and not afraid to use it!!

blight is in the air, but I believe Botrytis does linger as spores.

I always give my greenhouse a good clean with Citrox others use Jeyes to disinfect.

I've never used a sulpher candle before  - but may try one as this has been a bad year for fungi in general  :(

It looks like this -

I suppose it is relevant that I grew potatoes for only the second year, and they do not have blight.
