Plum Gin

This is a very simple recipe I have used for the last couple of years.
Prick 6 red plums or damsons all over and put in a 1Lt wide neck jar (preserving jars are perfect) Add 100 gms of suger and top up with the cheapest gin you can find. Shake gently every day, or when you remember, for 2-3 months. Filter into bottles through a paper towel and enjoy.
Warning! It looks like cordial, it tastes like cordial but it works like a chainsaw. It will take you off at the knees.
I am reliably informed that the left over plums make a very tasty jam.
I use my own gin but I see it is not 'legal' in the UK.

Sounds good coatesi.

Can I just clarify for the benefit of some of our subscribers (who I won't name here) ...  when coatesi says "top up with the cheapest gin you can find", he/she is referring to the aforementioned wide-necked jars and not to the wide-necked individual who is preparing the recipe!

definitly the jars. The wait, if you can, makes the cheap gin into a very nice smooth drink.

I was wondering what to do with gin as I could'nt get sloes.  We have cranberry vodka and plum brandy just about ready for drinking so plum gin will make a nice trio.

I expect there will be when they come into season later in the year, Ann!  I keep hoping to unearth a bag from the freezer, but no joy

Oh, and yes please Munty!  I'd like some sloes!

I have decanted my plum gin for the winter, and after putting out samples around the neighbourhood I have have the thumbs up 8) .
A local down the pub borrowed my hydrometer to measure his plum wine and it came out at 8% but it tastes like s**t.
Something a year or two ,hopefully, will fix.
