Pumpkin not looking well.
« on: September 01, 2014, 08:20 »
I have managed to grow a pumpkin plant from a seed taken from a supermarket pumpkin last year. I wasn't expecting much, but have two fruits which are about small bowling ball size.  They were green for a long a time, but have just started to go orange now.

However, this weekend I noticed the plant doesn't look very well.  All the leaves have gone from lovely green to a very pale yellow/ light green and it looks like it is dying.
I thought it might keep going well into October and the fruits get nice a large but I dont think it will last a nother week at this rate.  I gave it a good water, but we have had lots of rain over the last week.

The pumpkins themselves look very healthy, so should I cut them off and let the ripen fully at home, or leave them and see what happens?

Thanks.

I'd leave them on as long as you can, until it's clear that the plant can no longer hydrate or feed the pumpkins (i.e. the leaves are clearly dead).
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Some of mine are doing it too. It's totally normal. When the plant thinks it's made enough seed, it's finished. Leave the fruits on until the plant is totally dead or frosts are imminent.
