Watered the veg and soothed a little girl who was stung by a bee.

Watered with the help of an army of kids and two mums. Lamented the dying tom plants...

Had a lovely 3 hours with 11 year old. Another big patch cleared and dug over where peas and spinach were. Got a large pile of spinach now for more saag aloo. Last few red onions dug up. Thats the next bed to dig over. Looking tidier each visit but emptier too!

Took some spent compost & added it to compost bin 1. Planted lots of various bulbs that were in various pots in the garden, & some that were left over from clearing the front garden last year. Chopped down some big weeds & brought them back with 3 bags of weeds taken out last weekend ready to add to the brown bin for Monday. In the garden I washed all the used plant pots ready to put in to storage when I've tidied the big allotment shed tomorrow.

My veggie garden re-vamp is well on the way now.  All the old beds have been dismantled, all the land has been deeply rotavated, new beds installed.  I now have 2 bed 4x4m and 2 beds 4x5m.  Yesterday I covered them all with some well rotted and very dry and dusty horse manure and a covering of chipped olive branches and leaves. I just need to incorporate that lot into the soil. Late summer plantings can now commence - cabbages, caulis, etc., to go in today whilst is it on the cool side.  More aches in the shoulders today me thinks :(
Now what shall I do today?

Brought home the last of the squash before the tree rats get them and pulled up the plants. Pulled out the runner bean plants as they are done and tidied up the beds. Made a start at hacking at the gooseberry/shoulder height nettle/bindweed mess that has hugely encroached on by plot from next door  >:(

Just finished planting spring cabbages (Duncan), green ball headed cabbages (Copenhagen), red cabbages (Cabeza Negra 3) and Cauliflowers (Alba)  And also have started my runner bean trench for next year.  Dug a deep trench, half filled it with some of left over horse/pig manure from last year.  Will top it up with partly rotted compost and then back-fill.  The beans will think they have come to a health farm next year!  Have called it a day now (11.40) as it is now too hot to carry on.  Tools away so now to shower and have an afternoon in front of the tv for some movies and carry on with my cross-stitch.  Happy days:)

Happy days:)

Great stuff.

As for me, I watered for the last time with help from one of the visiting mums. The house will seem dreadfully empty now they've all gone.

Now it's just me, I'll be back to the weeding and checking whatever else can go in or get started off before the end of the season.

Cut one lot of grass and hoed. Inspected my newly painted shed.

Lots of flowers to pick in the week as well as carrots and beetroot to pull.
No rush.  :)

In anticipation of a good late flourish of beans I gave my runners and climbers a handful of Growmore and a water.  Hope this little Indian summer continues.  There will be a lot more beans for the freezer.  Harvested the last of my sweetcorn.  Now they were a gorgeous revelation this year and go right to the top of Mrs Robsters approved list for next year. Started harvesting my Pink Fir Apple potatoes.  Estimated that I have enough for about 30 weeks at our normal rate of consumption.  I'll need to be rehoming some I'm sure

Watered on my own! A shock to the system, especially as most of the water butts are nearly empty and it took me ages, walking back and forth from the fuller barrels to the beds.
