This time last year I had planted and sown onions, peas, carrots, parsnips, beetroot, salad leaves, spring onions and potatoes. Put in and painted four raised beds (1.2m X 7m) and planted three up with strawberries and the fourth with rhubarb. Brassicas ready to plant out and nets at the ready to stop pigeons.
Panic stricken about how I would manage with the water at the lottie being turned off on 1st April, made sure all the water butts were full and set up to collect the rain to make the most of any water that way.
What a difference now!!
I have my own cement mixer and not afraid to use it!!

Even with the mini heat wave we had last year they did predict snow. I remember cos a year ago today I was in my 4th day of labour and hubby was a jibbering wreck at the thought of driving to hospital in snow

This time last year I was busy clearing off a plot which I had shared with a friend for many years - several compost bins worth of compost built up to bag up, lifting wood from raised beds, emptying and carting water butts etc all to my other plot.  It took a lot longer to clear off than I'd like to admit as I do have a bad habit of hoarding stuff with "oh, that looks useful" ideas (such as bits of double glazing, pallets etc).  For several months I had been undecided which plot to keep as both had good qualities each of their own (one was good for drought, the other good in wet season) but one had to go and I had to move as my friend gave up his plot and I wasn't coping with 2.  After the dry 2011, take a guess which one I chose as the drought continued .... followed by the wettest year  ::)

I didn't get my potatoes in until Good Friday which was 6th April I think, so apart from some garlic and overwintering onions, not a lot else was in the ground.

This time last year I pulled my first sticks of rhubarb (timperley early - 27th March). This year it looks like it will be another month before I can pull any.  :(

Even the forced rhubarb is pathetic. I keep looking and nothing is happening. Had to get the last of the harvest from last year to make a good ol' rhubarb crumble this week.  :(

Bit worrying that we are reminiscing nostalgically about last year.
a.k.a. "The worst growing season for 30 years".
