cockerel with laryngitis sound
« on: October 10, 2009, 07:02 »
This morning Carlos the cockerel sounds very hoarse and squeaky. He actually sounds as if he has laryngitis when he is crowing. What can this be as i'm worried he is in pain or has some kind of infection? Thanks in advance for any replies, Maggie

He's about 8 months old now and has been crowing for a few months.

Hi I had a young cock showing off to the girls he picked something up to show them and got it stuck in his throat. He would not eat or drink( could not see it)  so I syringed water x2 and cooking oil x2 down his throat ( thats all I had) in the moring he was fine what ever was stick shifted and he is now my oldest cocks It left him with a squeak at the end  of the crow but he is a beautiful boy.
Just wondered if yours is the same?

I've got a hen who had the same problem, wasn't really chesty more as you say laryngitis when 'talking'. I gave her bio yogurt and a little olive oil and it seems to have sorted it right out.

Thanks all for the replies. When he got up this morning he was crowing properly but within an hour he was back to the squeaky croaky sounds. Also after the sort of laryngitis noise it sounds like a sharp intake of breath or an echo. Not a very good description but i don't know how else to describe the sound. Maggie
