Just watching Peppa Pig with my Grand-daighter, Grandpa Pig is showing the kids how compost is made. They then go and collect extra worms for the heap.

Made me think ..

Do all worms help with the composting process, or are Tiger worms the best.

To be honest i do not understand why people part with cash for worms to stock the compost heap when the worms are very good at finding their own way !

The birds that chuck all the the rubbish out of the roof gutter are after........guess what ?

If they can find a home nearly twenty feet up in the sky they will soon discover a compost heap at ground level !

The main worms found in heaps are called redworms or brandling (tiger) i think the redworm proper name is Dendrobena!
Plus  you get a few lobworms and garden worms helping too.

I have recently filled up some daleks with fresh manure, took a look  today and there were some tiger worms on the top layer having a munch they were'nt there when i put it in there so suould have some nice compost next year (hopefully)

I have found that the majority of worms in a compost bin are brandlings and the lobs and black heads seem to like the very bottom of the pile.

Mine just look like ordinary garden worms, but the compost miracle still happens every year so I'm not complaining
