Looks like you've invented artificial gravity!

The green shoot will turn itself to head upwards, likewise the white root will head downwards.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Jan 18th

My little girl could not wait to tell me the next chapter
She wants to know what happens next ?

You'll have to explain the difference between the shoot and the root and then let her (and the bean) sort it out, because at the moment they are the "wrong" way round (luckily they always know which way to go and it looks as if the white root might already be looking for an easy way to head downwards via the tissue!)  :)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

she insists nature will find a way of fixing itself....... very independant

Did this experiment almost every year in a 35 year teaching career the root and shoot usually sort themselves out. She will be planting sunflowers soon for the class competition.
Taken over neglected veg garden at new home. Enemy number 1 Ground Elder. Then there is the furry terror - bunnies - to contend with!
Made a start have beds established but moved in too late for serious planting. We shall see what 2015 brings.

I think I can ee where you mean, coming out on the left, just before the tip.

You have to remember that under normal growing conditions, this shoot would still be below ground and roots can be put out anywhere along it's length. You'd never normally get to see them.

I`ve only just seen this thread.

I`ve recently splashed out on a timelapse camera, so I may start an experiment of my own. :)
I`m left handed, what`s your excuse?

how tall do broad bean plants get?

3-4 ft before I pinch out the top because of blackfly

That's outdoors on the plot.   Not idea what might  happen indoors :D

Sometimes my plants grow despite, not because of, what I do to them.
