Yeah, bit expensive but he was showing me what he did, he said just put them in a pot and keep damp at all times, the one he recomended for me was abaco

They look like DIY jobbies, so whatever you can lay your hand on to make them.

Some old plastic barrels with the tops and bottoms cut off, I suspect.

the pots in the pic  are  clear polythene (heavy duty  id guess) cut to size  then wraped in  black and white  polythene   
just to give peter an idea of  where the roots of  the onions  are at  he can  take  the  black and white off to  view
