My good lady wife and I took a couple of friends to Brooklands museum yesterday.
I used to be a member years ago when it first opened to te public. Many of the buildings where in a pretty poor state.
My, how things have changed! If you are in the area, could I recomend a visit? It's well worth a look at, and it now has Concorde open to the public, along with a Vc10. Lots of cars, motorcycles, aroplanes, even bicycles.
It's not vastly overpriced either, which makes a change!
Have a look at their website:

If I remember right, my dad took me there on the back of his motorbike in the late 70s to have a look at it in its derelict state before they opened the museum.

Would that tally with the museum ? (could have been another track)

All I remember is ending up with flippin cold knees by the time we got there. :)

That would be about right. It was in an appalling state when it first opened to the public, but it's been worked on very hard by the "brookland trust" and all the volunteers.
It makes a good day out now.
If you go in warmer weather, take a picnic, sit out on the members banking, and let your mind drift back to what it would have been like in it's hey-day. :)

I can remember it was very overgrown. It warms the heart to know that so many people are willing to put so much into these restoration projects.

I must look around locally to see if there's any voluntary projects needing help. I can make a mean cuppa.  :)

Could someone not start a "sticky" about places to visit apart from the allotment? this could include prices and things like take a picnic or there is a good pub...etc
Just a suggestion..........

My dad drove his car round Brooklands in the early 30s.  He stripped all the lights and wind resistance bits off and did a measured 1/4 mile at 110 mph.  (That was very fast for those days)

His car was.......

....... a streight eight racing Bugatti.

He sold it for £35 to get married
