Garden bench coating
« on: August 03, 2008, 14:14 »
Hi all, I bought a 2 seater hardwood garden bench. Will this need a coating of some kind to counter the rain etc, if so which would be the right coating to give it.

The bench details are : 2 seater hardwood, species - acacia, finishing -  teak oil, made in - malaysia.

Many thanks.

Does it not say if it has already been treated with anything?

teak oil or danish oil is all that it will need, do it once a year.

DONT paint it with a wood preservative like Sadolin or similar, they just obliterate the grain and in the end it looks as tho its just been painted.....

eventually, over a few years the colour will start to bleach (go lighter) and is natural (if you look at ships/boats with teak decks they are white) if you dont like this you can always rub it over with a spirit dye (Colron or Rustins) prior to oiling.....
Death OR Cake ???
