Please  can I have your recommendations for onions. Also, one of the old guys on the plot said now is the time to plant. I thought it was usually October or November. Any thoughts? I am in London. Thanks for any advice and recommendations.

The Kings catalogue says "Overwintering onions must be planted between mid-Sept and mid-Oct.  If the weather is mild it is best to plant towards the end of this period to avoid bolting.  If cold, plant towards the beginning."

Senshyu is a common white onion for autumn planting.

I have had good success with Shakespeare, which is round and brown skinned. I plant early to mid October so they have enough time to grow good roots before the soil gets cold

Thanks everyone. It’s pretty mild here, I’ll wait till the end fo the month. I like the sound of Shakespeare and will also look into shenyu.
