Lasting power of attourney rebate.
« on: May 20, 2018, 13:57 »
Whilst waiting for my OH to have a blood test, I was browsing through a Dementia magazine when this caught my eye. Did you know you can claim a partial refund if you took out a lasting power of attorney between 1st April 2013 and 31st March 2017? Well, I certainly didn't so have just put in my application and should receive about 35 in my bank account. Here's the link: https://www.gov.uk/power-of-attorney-refund.
To fail is a step up on the ladder of wisdom.

Rebate from who?, I've had a "power of attorney" written by my solicitor for about 25 years now, (just in case), plus a will with it, from when I was a "long", (and I mean long, 6 week trips), haul truck driver

Our solicitor did ours which was then registered as yours would have been, and the rebate comes from the Government; however yours was done before the qualifying date so you won't be able to make a claim.

The link given in the first post opens a webpage explaining the criteria for the rebate  ;)

All else in your life being the same, your Enduring Power of Attorney will be valid - although after 25 years you might want to re-read it.  What is being talked about here is the newer Lasting Powers of Attorney which replaced yours.

Good point there madcat. Not having done it before I didn't realise it had been updated.

Mum reclaimed for her LPAs - very straightforward, and she got the refund through quickly.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Thank you all for the information, I don't think I'll bother trying to claim, I cannot even remember how much it cost, , needless to say, it was never needed, as I am still here,, but it took away a lot of worry at the time,
