Grow Your Own / Re: Bees nest
« Last post by chillimummy on September 19, 2018, 20:20 »
So should I leave that whole patch without digging it over?
Will they return and I have another nest next year then?
Just concerned that it is in middle of my plot although obviously I don't want to harm the queen so will she leave after the winter is over?
Sorry so many questions  :D

Grow Your Own / Re: How do you store your seeds... ie in what order (if any)

During the off season mine are in a large tool box, normally divided into seed type by way of jiffy bag.  During sowing times, they can be found filed in the pockets whatever I was wearing when I sowed them last  ::)

If there's a lack of seed your probably looking at a tripod, but identification can be tricky. I'll be looking at picking the Bramleys  within the next 2 weeks , which probably 2-3 weeks earlier than normal.   Pictures are a real help both of fruit as a whole and of the apex and core.

I've found the best way to ID  bramley is by the puree it creates - it really is the "daddy" of apple sauce there is no comparison. :tongue2:  I've put some windfalls with pork this week and even ML noticed when I switched to apple sauce made from the James Grieve.

Gusts of 78 mph recorded at Carlisle Airport. Got quite a large old tree down in the back. Fortunately the only damage it caused is to a fence with three panels destroyed. Plenty of large branches down in a small bit of woodland that we own, any one of which would have caused serious injury had it fallen on one of us.

More worrying is the fact that a couple of ridge tiles have been dislodged on the roof and the guy who does our roofing work is on holiday until next week

Meniere's Disease is absolutely horrible. I get bouts of it and take medication as and when required.
I hope you enjoyed the trip

You think coleslaw has to be dressed, then?
Obviously - and if it's somewhere nice, like the greenhouse a shirt and tie is required

Pasta tonight with tuna as last night's cheese didn't sit too well.  Added bonus being Max will happily eat the leftovers  :nowink:  ::) Honestly anyone would think I didn't feed the poor sole.

There's a decidedly large tree come down and parked itself by the doors of two downstairs social housing flats around the corner - gardens and fences demolished. It'll be some days before the housing association finds someone with the appropriately large chainsaw required to move that - large sized commercial job there.

Have reassembled most of the greenhouse but am short of clips and the "children" who have the spares have gone on holiday to Cornwall this morning.

Haven't dared to go up to the allotment to see if the fruit trees are still in place. Have been disinclined to go out as it's been a bit windy. The local community supported veg growing scheme sent all the volunteer work shares home as it's up on a hill and it was dangerous to life and limb.

Hopefully the person responsible is still just about capable of delivering a human response if gently pushed

I've been gently pushing now for 6 weeks, I'm afraid it's time I introduced the complaints department's (sorry Care and Quality Team's) rear end to my size 12.  :D

I think the Complaints Team et al are hoping you'll eventually give up....

That was my reading of the situation too, especially as every week they delay things costs me the best part of 500   -I feel someone should warn them,  I make Sisyphus look like a part-timer  ::)
