I will be looking for POL ducks and perhaps it would be better to offer homes to 3 or 4 of yours than to buy in. Will contribute in feed or whatever to your costs of taking in unwanted birds, which is admirable. We do need to have egg layers so sorry no males and we would like egg laying breeds such as Campbells or similiar if possible.
We are keeping all our elderly ducks in retirement so if we do get new ones in we will be building more runs.

I have two cream legbar cockerels which are just one week old.  Will you be in a position to offer them a home when they are 6 weeks old and no longer require heat?  Look forward to hearing from you. Thanks.

Hi Beegal

We've been trying to find a new home for our two hens but haven't had any success so far.  They are two year old hybrids (one white amberlink, one something else, but black) who are too noisy for us now particularly early in the morning - I think it might be the number of cats living nearby who like to upset them.  Egg production has dropped off, with maybe 5 eggs total a week, rather than both laying an egg a day up to a few months ago.

We wonder if you would be able to take them?  We're coming to Northamptonshire from Kent next Friday (12th) so if you were able to help us out we could bring them to you.

Beth

Hello, I just found this site after searching interweb for help with rehoming 2 two year old hens that we can no longer keep as we are moving soon and can't keep them at new place.
Would appreciate it if you would have them. Unfortunately, as a new member I don't think I can't pm you, is there any other way we could discuss?
Thanks.

Would you be able to help please? We have a 14 month old Pekin Bantam cockerel and 3 or 4 young pekin cockerels that were born the end of June, lovely boys, the Mature male is very much a male and loves to crow any time he feels like!  ::) the younger boys are just starting to crow and they sound so funny, but my neighbours would not be happy if I keep them all, chickens fine, cockerels not unfortunately.

If you are not able to help, do you know anyone in the Merseyside/Cheshire/Lancashire  area that may be able to help?

I appreciate that it might be difficult to contemplate as a newbie to chicken keeping but it might be an idea to take advice from members with experience and understand the need.  How would you cope with a hen that was desperately ill and the kindest thing to do was to cull it?

Post by: Aylesbury on October 09, 2011, 22:12
I am sorry, I was not thinking straight.
Of course if I had an ill animal, I would cull it, I would not want it to suffer, pet or otherwise. I have tried to find homes, failed and it is inevitable that this it the only way.
I apologise for my naivety. Thank you to everyone who assisted in the penny dropping process.

I am having to go to re-home my 2 Watermel cockerels. I'm so upset as I only picked them up at The Fed on Sunday and have been wanting these birds for over 4 years!! One of my neighbours has compalined. If I can't find them a home close to me would you be able to take them? I'm devistated to have to part with them but can't risk losing all my birds because the neighbouris threatening to go to the council and environmantal health.

Cheers Alan for you reply. I have re-homed the birds only today!! Both the boys and the hens and pullets went to a breeder! They were happy to take them all and put them as breeding trios as the cock birds were all unrelated to the girls. They have given me credit to use to buy birds off them in the future so I've not lost any money, only my lovely Watermaels!!  :(

hello, really the ratio should be more than 1 female per male.
Please remember that if you get the ducks through any offer on this forum they should be given freely or exchanged for perhaps feed. No money should change hands  :).

Hi RigsVilleBird

We allow begal (Alan) to offer homes to unwanted birds, particularly cockerels through our forums - although his service is not free - as we consider it a valuable service to those people who hatch chicks and can't kill the boy birds.

We don't, however, allow him to resell birds through the forums.  You will have to contact him direct.

Hi Beegal,
Would you take a Rhode Island Red cockerel please? He's one year old, and we think he's quite a character. Unfortunately the neighbours don't agree. He was hatched out by one of our hens and we're really sad to see him go, but feel we have no choice after complaints about his 4am wake up calls. Can you help? Thanks, Andrew

Hi. I have a buff Orpington cockerel that needs rehousing. I got 2 thinking they were hens, he's about 10 months old and just started cock a doodle doing. That's when we realised it was a cockerel! Would you be able to take him in if I brought him over to you as I'm only in desford? Thanks, Paul

Hi Beegal,

We have recently moved home and as it is have no room for the two chickens we own and the landlord isn't keen so with deep regret we have to rehouse them. Both good regular layers and in good health. Could you provide info on where this would be possible any help would be much appreciated thanks.

Craig

Hi
I have several cockerels that I have become home to recently. They've all ended up at my door due to my kind heart and the need to not have them destroyed however my neighbours are not so pleased. I do not want them destroyed in any way and would be willing to make a donation or to take some unwanted hens in return. I have 2 beautiful gold laced orpingtons, 1 light Sussex, 1 black frizzle bantam and 3 other bantams, they are all well behaved and will be de loused and wormed.
Thanks in advance
Ali

Hi all

I have eight, yes 8 male chickens and 11 females; however, four of the males are nearly 6 motnhs old and are being fattened, the others are all between 18 months and two yrs so a little tired for the pot

The options are to cull and cook/feed to the dogs, or try to find homes which is a struggle

Any ideas? We are in East Northants

Thanks in advance

Boil in milk? How long does a chicken take to boil in milk? Is it used as stewing meat or for a soup after?

Hello,

I saw your post (way back in 2011) about rehoming poultry, do you still take ducks in need of a good home?

We had two Cherry Valley ducks, one of them has died and left us with a very lonely duck who needs some friends.  Could you take her?  Unfortunately we are not in a position to get another duck to keep her company.

I hope to hear from you.

one of my "Hens" has turned out to be a cockerel.  due to a bit of good luck he has not started to make any noise yet,(about 19-20 weeks old) but i know the neighbours would not be happy if/when he does. i really dont want to have to go down the route of culling him as at the moment he is a very quiet bird.   are you still rehoming unwanted poulty?

Hi.
I have a 10 month old cockerel. I'm moving soon due to a new job and living on site. I am allowed to bring my hens with me but my employer has told me I can not bring my cockerel due to the noise he makes and having elderly people in the very close proximity. Could you help re home him please.
I'm not sure what else i could do with him.
Thankyou

hi what it is my mum has had a cockerel for 7 years now
he gets up at half 8 and has a doodle then, and again between 3 and 5 pm
we have had a complaint from 1 neighbor in 7 years that they cant sleep at 3pm because of a cockerel that makes a noise for about 2 to 3 minutes twice a day
now the council say we must have him destroyed basically
i will pay someone to look after him or just rehome him so we dont have to take him the vets to be put down.

It is breaking my mums and all of our hearts please someone help
she had 10 chickens these all died now due to old age
big red as we call him is the only one left
my mum has gone through some hard times lately and for the person to do this
to her makes me sick it really does but what can you do the council remain anonymous for the person and they have threatened us with 5 thousand pound fine if hes not gone buy the 28th may

someone out in the middle of no where or country lane would be ideal
i will pay for food a pen to be built whatever it takes
please someone help me save red and make my mum happy again

i will supply food every week
i will pay u a small fee each month to look after him
or if u can re home him to a good home he can have a life atleast
i will do whatever it takes to save him contact me please

I could have him and let him live with my assorted ten girls, they free range most of the time but I live over in Lincolnshire so would have to meet you half way if you would be happy for him to come to me. Cockerel crowing is no problem where I live as I have no close neighbours and those who live down the road all have cockerels.

I have three grey speckledy cockerels that I need to find homes for.  We were given nine chicks in March and told they were hens, however three have now started crowing!  We can't keep more than one rooster and don't have room to set up extra enclosures for them.

Are you still taking in unwanted birds?  I can transport them to Nuneaton as we are based in Leicestershire.

Hi,

Can i add to this post please?

I'm desperately looking for a new home for my Cockerell Ivor.
We're located in Essex and have not found a single loving home to take him.
I'm more than happy to take a drive up to where Beegal is, or anyone else for that matter.

Attached if a picture of Ivor.

We also have a hen who could accompany him so that he doesn't feel lonely.

Hello Beegal
I have a Cotswold White Star who has turned out to be a bloke  ::) We are looking for someone to take him on as we can't keep him. Our neighbours would kill us, and when he's fully mature, he might kill our little lady. We need another chook to replace him as we bought the two as layers. Boudicca, (the goldline) is happily dropping an egg a day so another small chicky to keep her company would be good. Are you able to swap for us ?  We are in the Cotswolds, not far from Cheltenham.

Hello Beegal,

Do you offer holiday accomodation for hens. I have three Blacktails and would like to board them out for a few days. My usual hen B & B lady will probably busy selling POL birds and so I'm looking for an alternative. We are only in Acocks Green B'ham.   I keep them in an egloo go and they free range the garden most afternoons, usually giving us 3 eggs per day, we would want then back!!!

We are desperately looking for a new home for our young cockerel.  Heís only 3 months old and very good natured.  He is a pure breed silke/pekin bantam cross, fully wormed and very healthy.  We can not keep him because we already have a pet cockerel.  Is this something you would consider? We are happy to transport and made a donation towards upkeep etc.  Many thanks.

I have two female Indian Runners.  They have been lovely pets, born in my garden but I do worry that now I only have two, should one die the other one would be very distressed.

Looking for a nice retirement home for them please.

As I said, I had added Jim 1954 to the pm system.   I've pm'd the original post with the mobile number to Beegal and copied you in Jim.

Just a general comment to please use the personal message facility to pass contact details to each other in the poultry swap shop.  The forum is read by lots of people and putting your mobile number on here for anyone to see is asking for trouble.  If you don't have enough posts, you can ask to be added to it early.  We will always help if it something like rehoming birds  :)

Hi Beegal.

Not sure if this is the right place to post this!?

My friend has two chickens ( warren and cream legbar ) that she is trying to re-home.

Would you have space for them please?

Thanks

Hi Beegal, are you still accepting poultry specifically a 6 month old black cochin cockerel?  I'm near the M5 so can bring him up if you would be willing to rehome.  Best wishes, Viv.

Hi Beegal, I have two 7 month cockerels i need to rehome (have 3 altogether but can keep 1). Not sure of the breeds, i know they're both part light sussex and ones part rhode island red, but the other is a mystery. Would you be able to take them? I live in Leicestershire so would be able to drop them off on a weekend.

Hi Beegal,

We have two hens that we need to re-home due to a change of circumstance. They are both three years old and we've had them since they were point of lay, and they're still laying well. One is a Bluebell and the other a Maran Star, and they'll follow you anywhere for a bit of corn.

We've been trying to find somewhere for them for the last couple of weeks but no-one has responded to our enquiries so far, and need to let them go before the weekend. Would you be able to take them please?

They will be able to bring some food with them.

Thanks,
Paul

Hi Beegal,

Further to my previous reply, we still have both of the hen. I don't want the time frame I mentioned last time to put you off as we found a way to hang on to them a bit longer, although they do still need to be re-homed.

If you can help by taking them (along with their food) off our hands we would be extremely grateful, as would the hens. If you're unable to help would you please let me know so that I can try other rescue avenues?

Thanks,
Paul

Hi Beegal,

I currently have 9 hens, who are really suffering from red mite.  I am hoping to keep 3 of my hens, as I have acquired an eglu classic, which is red mite free.  But I am needing to destroy my coop which fits all of the hens in, due to the red mite.  I am looking to rehome the other 6 hens and found your post saying you do this...?
I am wanting to rehome them asap as I need to destroy the current coop, as I am fighting a loosing battle with the mite!
They are looking a bit worse for wear with some having lost more feathers than others. I am getting up to 7 eggs day from them.
I am in Oxfordshire, so not too far.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi, I have a 1 year old golden partridge bantam that I need to rehome as he's starting to get frisky with his old mum (who doesn't appreciate it), do you have space for him?  Happy to contribute food etc, also happy to swap if you have any bantam hens you need rehoming.
Thanks

Whoever sees a re-homing post first usually fixes it for the person so they can pm.  Srunicorn69 has already been set up for pms, but Beegal hasn't logged on here for a while, so he may be taking a break from taking poultry in.

Other options are Preloved or Gumtree - cockerels are usually offered free but even then they are not always taken.  It is a harsh fact of hatching, but you have to be prepared to cull the boys  :(
