Raspberries
« on: March 17, 2018, 11:09 »
Hi all,  I planted a line of raspberry canes last year but some don't appear to have taken.  I have a good few 'runners' which have popped up in a bed that I had raspberries healed into a few years back.  Could I dig these runners up and move them to the places where the canes failed or should I buy fresh canes for the gaps?

There is no reason not to use your own runners if they are healthy.

When did you plant the new ones last year?  If it was autumn/winter, they can take quite a while to show themselves the following spring.

The other thing is not to mix up summer and autumn fruiting types as the pruning is completely different.

I planted them this time last year so I would have expected them to be up.  They are all summer fruiting.  Will move them tomorrow if the snow holds off and I get up.

Hmmmm, you would think so if they are going to do anything.  Good that you have some spares though  :)
