Discovered, sadly  :( , why the blowaway has that name. Despite being firmly tethered (or so I thought) in a corner of the plot next to fence and shed, it had blown over in the gales and smashed to pieces  :( :(. It didn't contain much - just some hardy annual flower seedlings - but they are no more.  At least the netting over the brassicas had stayed in place  :) - there were 2 hungry wood pigeons eyeing them from the apple tree.

Oh sorry to hear your blowaway did just that Flowertot  :(  At least the brassicas are safe -  those pigeons would strip them to ribbons given half a chance   ;)

Thanks very much New Shoot.  Although I am sad, I know I would have been much more upset if I'd lost the PSB and kale to the pigeons so I am trying to look on the bright side. I figure I can have another go at the annual flowers in spring  :).

Dug up a Tornado leek (what an apt name for here) to go in our Guinea Fowl broth. What a good leek it has been the last two years since we have grown it. It has a really good flavour plus a good amount of white shank without going to all the trouble of earthing up or covering with cardboard rolls which disintegrated when I tried it last year.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

I've pretty much given up on the onion/leek covering but I did nip up there this morning and re-cover the PSB and tuscan kale as the pigeons are having a field day!!
Hopefully it will last the - i'll have to go up and check again after the stronger winds. ::)

Got out to the plot before the rain and managed to dig a new 2m x 4m bed. 8 wheelbarrows full of couch roots and mares tale roots later and it looks good now  :)

Went and pruned friend's apple trees and in return got raspberry and hazel suckers and blackcurrant cuttings.  Stopped off at home to get a container of water and then went straight up the plot to plant - the fruit in the plot itself and the hazels in the hedge.  Then we went foraging for more hedge plants up the other side of the hedge where there is a footpath, and moved those into the hedge itself as well.  DS2 was rather worried this was illegal and kept looking shiftily up and down the footpath!

Nipped in between showers to get the last of the first bed of leeks. Needed to clear it as collecting manure at the end of the week for this bed. Second bed of leeks coming on nicely.
Parsnips looking really sad as most of the green top leaves have disappeared. Hope they are still ok as this year has been the best for me parsnip wise to get them this far.
I have my own cement mixer and not afraid to use it!!

They'll be fine Yana, once it warms up then you will see new leaf growth & know it is time to get them used before it is time to resow & they go woody.
