Our first ones for dinner tonight too!  They are lovely aren't they?  First parsnip too.   We left thinning a bit late so they are carrot size and well worth cooking a few.

Well I had my first boiling tonight, except I was given them by another potholder so she got a punnet of cherries in return😊

My runners not doing so well this year, lot of flowers not producing any beans.
We come from the earth, we return to the earth, and in between we garden.

Same! First year I have ever had a problem - it was the late start to summer that did it I think

We had our first handful of Painted Lady runner beans last week, but picked a load today for Sunday Lunch.
They were just delicious.
Great think about runner beans, is they crop so well year after year with no problems, look so great and colourful in the plot and are so easy to hoe between the rows. Probably the number one perfect gardeners cropper.

Slow growth in cold June, fast growth in warm July, the usual wait for the bees to either find them or work out how to trip the flowers and pollinate them (never sure which it is.)

Probably start picking sometime next week - funny how whatever mixture the weather comes up with it I rarely get to start harvesting before early August here.
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

There was such a glut last year that I'd planned to try and make runner bean wine with them this season.....but thinking about bean wine, it is probably a good thing I haven't got as many to do it  :D

I harvested my first Painted Lady on Friday and they were lovely.  Thanks for putting them in the Pass the Parcel, Lettice.    They are so pretty too.
