You wouldn't be the first to give up on lilies. Many former members of my lily club had to give up on them when the bugs caught up. Its almost a losing battle with them.

Oh bought me a bug spray from homebase which says it kills lily beetles (as well as numerous other nasties) i gave my lilies a good spray even though no bugs could be seen and within seconds 6 bugs came running to the end of the leaves which i flicked into a tray and squashed with a vengance. while i was watching the plants to see if any more were trying to escape ,the previously squashed bugs had began to wriggle and right theirselves ,even though they were squished beyond belief ,they werent really dead:shock: out came my hammer  They are on heavens lilies now
if it grows, it grows! if it doesnt ,, ah well .. there's always next year. :-)

6 more today and this is just on one plant. All my ones in pots don't seem to be affected (yet).

I think it's time to go and buy some Provado.

Just got a couple of lilies coming up and a few fritillaries, but have squished 17 lily beetles in 2 days, including 3 mating pairs. All but 1 were on the fritillaries, with as many on plants in pots as the border. The garden has never really been used before so these are flying in, not ones that were in the soil.

I think I'm going to have a problem.......

I had an infestation for the first time in 2006. I sprayed the 'orrible mucky grubs with soapy water. They definitely don't like it. I killed many beetles but more must have escaped. But last year although I was watching for them, only one turned up and this year there are so far none.

So don't despair! The battle can be won.
