Ill chicken
« on: May 17, 2012, 15:01 »
I have a Black Rock chook who doesn't seem well.  She is just over 2 years old.  She is eating plenty but she has a messy bottom and she sits all puffed up.  She was in the coop when I came home but I enticed her out with some sweetcorn, which she ate.  I noticed that her tail was down and her comb looks darker.  Anyone got any ideas what could by wrong with her?
 :(

Hi

I'm no expert but I'll try and give you a few ideas  :)

When did she last lay? Could she be egg bound.

Has she had a moult yet?

Check under her wing and see if she has a temperature. compare her temp with another hen.

Good luck  :)

I don't think she has laid an egg for a while.  Will check her temperature tonight when it stops raining, if it ever does!!!

I wormed them earlier this year but I started worming them again on Tuesday just in case.

Chook looking worse today.  She wasn't keen on coming out this morning.  Gave them treats this pm and she came wandering over and had some.  Her tail is down and she is just standing looking miserable.  I checked to see if her crop was full but it seems empty and there doesn't seem to be an egg stuck but her poo is white and green.  Any ideas?

A visit to the vet might be in order?
