Any advise welcome
« on: January 14, 2010, 10:52 »
I am a bit worried about my 2 chickens who seem to have lost weight although appear bright, active and are laying most days. They are not eating their pellets whether dry or moistened and if i mix any thing with them they just pick out all the best bits! They eat any veggies/corn which I give later. I am concerned as have just lost a chicken who the vet reported as too ill to save. She seemed fine until 48hrs before I noticed she became ill but the vet said she to was very underweight. Grateful for any advise as i don't want to wait until they become ill.

sorry you lost one of your girls but do you know what her problem was?
As for your others if it was me I would cut out all the other treats and just give them their normal layers as they will need their minerals and vitamins if they are still laying. It seems that they are just wanting their chocolates and not their dinners just like children would given the chance  :).
Staffies are softer than you think.

Hi there , sorry to hear you lost one of your girls, I am sure joyfull is absolutely right , she is far more experienced than I , I was just wondering if you had checked your pellets to ensure they had not become contaminated by anything, we had a sack which had got damp and mouldy, without us knowing, and the girls wouldnt eat them, just a thought.
I hope it sorts out for you best wishes Ju X

Thanks for replies. Doris had to be put to sleep cos of peritonitis so don't think its related. Will try changing to other pellets to see if they prefer. Fussy girls!

Give absolutely NO treats.  It may take a couple of days but they will eat their pellets if nothing else is offered.

Absolutely agree with Aunt Sally. Changing the brand of pellets may upset them. They won't starve themselves!! ;)
Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted!!
