Title: How do you know when carrots are ready to pull?
Post by: jwhataylor on September 17, 2009, 10:30
How do you know when carrots are ready to pull?

I have a pot full of carrots and I was wondering when they are ready, I have pulled a couple out and they are about 3-4" long.

Is there a rule of thumb?

Thanks in advance

Jeff

You can eat carrots at any time from pencil thin so pull them just as you want them. As the soil cools down they will stop growing but as long as slugs are not nibbling them they can stay in your pot all winter. They may need some cover later in hard frost.
