hi I have and old sickle and I wonder if anyone can tell me how to sharpen it as I have a lot of brambles to cut down.
thanks david

With a sharpening stone, probably best with a cigar one, or if it is really blunt use a * file first, don't cut your finegrs when doing this.

hi i will try that, I have a cigar shaped stone somewhere in the shed and will dig it out and try it,do you sharpen one or two edges of blade
thanks david

the blade should be flat on the bottom and have a shallow edge generated from the top 5 degrees leave the burr as this will aid the sawing action

take the sharpener and pointing the blade down away from you stroke the sharpener down the cutting edge dont force it let it glide smoothly from yjr heft to the tip about 12 -20 times then turn it over and run the sharpener donw the back side a couple of times to remove the burrs and little metal chips etc . do it6 before and duing and after u use it every time and rub down with an oily rag hen wrapthe blade in a rag with oil on it
