I cracked today and put out another 6 tomato plants. The weather forecast for the week shows temperatures into the 20s in the day and above 10 at night. I have some fleece if things turn nasty but I reckon the weather will hold into June and beyond now.

Cheers HH
Keep digging

All ours have been hardening off for the last ten days.

The score so far: -

12 in the greenhouse
18 just outside along one side of greenhouse
9 to chums so far
6 on a spare bit on garden at home
12 to go in growbags/pots out in the front
12 to go on The Patch (allotment)

15 on 'The Patch' now, and three more to chums...

The only toms I grow semi-outdoors are in a cold frame (my old faithful Red Alert, just about too big to keep the covers on now.)

I have however donated my 4 spare plants to my new neighbours who are complete novices, so I planted them in a couple of growbags left by the previous owners for them. They've gone straight from my GH into the open garden, and my neighbour's little tot plans to keep them watered with her little pink watering can.

Good luck to them (what's the betting they do better than mine?)  ::)  :)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

I'm in Southampton and started planting out at the week-end. They've been hardened off for a week or so. Always do the baskets of tumblers and Sungold cordons first then chuck in more when I have time.
I grow everything outdoors using racks in the living room for seed germination then transferring to one of those zippy plastic things, then opening the zip, then taking out to harden off and even when my tomatoes went blue a few years ago they came back.
Tough as old boots. Tomatoes not me! :D
ps Don't forget to WATER if we get this heatwave......

I will probably put a dozen or so out over this weekend.
The rest of them will have to catch up first, another couple of weeks at least.
I have got approx 40 in total, spread over 3 types.

Miggs, what sort are they?

I just try and mix everything up; put lots in different positions and now want to know how chums here make their choices!

I have to confess here that I put mine out about three weeks ago in the back garden - which is reasonably sheltered. I had to take a risk as we were going away on hols and the greenhouses were getting rather crowded and would have been difficult for the "tomato sitter" to look after.

Pleased to say that I got away with it, despite a few cold nights early on, and they seem to be pulling away quite well.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?
