i cracked open one of my eggs n wen i looked in the bowl it had a tiny bit of blood in it i was wonderin if anyone knew what it was and if its something to worry about (im praying it wasnt the start of a baby chick).

i was also wonderin if it is ok 2 eat fertilised eggs because some people i spoke to said tht ur not supposed to. Im up to 3 eggs a day from 8 hens at the moment just a lil update thanks 4 the help.

My wyandotte sometimes lays eggs with a tiny bit of blood in them, I looked this up and found it quite common and usually genetic (If the egg wasnt fresh then the blood would go) ...there was a thread some time back about this with some good info and links...  

Forgive me for asking the obvious but you asked if it could be the start of a chick so i assume you keep a cockerel  if not not then the egg cannot be the start of a chick..  However if you collect the eggs daily, even with a male it wouldnt be the start of a chick.

Blood in an egg is quite common. Just a burst blood vessel in the hens reproductive system.  Commercial eggs are all candled and the ones with blood (or meat) spots in are discarded.  They are quite eddible . Though you might want to remove the bits first
