Title: Lethargic, puffed up hen with what sounds like a bubbling chest
Post by: thelittlers on March 12, 2011, 18:41
Hello there

I have a 9 month old pekin bantam, who has become very lethargic today and puffed up. She has very watery white frothy poo and when you listen to her she sounds like she is bubbling on her chest every now and then with her beak slightly open when she breathes. Any ideas what it is and if I could cure her? Do you think she is contagious

Look forward to hearing from you

Lucy - really dont want to loose her she is my favourite

Hello thelittlers,
I'm new to hen keeping so still learning a lot myself.I'm sure someone with more experience will be along shortly to advise.
Just wondering though....has she been wormed recently and does she have any other symptoms?

it sounds like a cold to me but im sure one of the more experianced keepers will assist

I place a garlic clove in the water once in a while i was told this would help to stop colds

Hope she gets better

chickens don't get colds like humans do however they do get respiritory infections so I would suggest a visit to a vets for a check over - perhaps a course of antibiotics may be needed.
