Cold and frosty start to the morning but a clear blue sky. It clouded over pretty quickly and whilst it a barmy 11c now it's cloudy, grey and dull.

Hope you are recuperating John.

I agree that flooded fields are going to have some impact later in the year. There is a lot of waste though in growing veg for the UK market. Some of the wonky stuff gets used in processed foods, frozen veg and the like but not enough.

Usually the supermarkets relax their standards and just take more of the crop. Where I work and at other shops at the cheaper end of the market, the produce varies quite widely, as they just source whatever they can get for the money to keep the prices fixed.

Most people don’t care and buy it anyway, which often makes me wonder why some supermarkets put their growers through the beauty pageant nonsense for their produce.

Apple trees also in blossom so fleeced. Very relieved that I went to the effort as significant frost here overnight.

My 2 younger girls were laying nicely but have now both gone into intense broody mode  ::)

I got sworn at quite badly for turfing them out of the nestbox this morning

Slightly chilly feel outside, but warming up fast. Picture book blue sky, sun and fluffy little white clouds.

That’ll do me  :D

Errrm nope!

Been caught out few times over the decades.

Personally if there is a risk I would cover anyway, at least you will have a crop.

We have several sites ranging 2c to 5c tomorrow night, will be covering the toms just in case, no point risking.
Good luck

So you have tomatoes in the ground now? Presumably under glass? Are you able to successfully get them through frosts usually then to produce well? I'm in North Yorkshire and all mine are in modules and only go out in the coldframe once the sun is on it, then they come back in for the night. I hadn't considered ever trying to get them out until the risk of frost is gone and ideally the nights are much warmer.
