I wonder if any of you lovely people can help me - if this is in the wrong section please move it!

MIL has a patch of ground that used to have a tree on it.  It is full of weeds, we often go and weed it just to find them straight back again - we have tried to dig up the roots but they keep reappearing.

It has been decided we will probably turf the area but need to get rid of the weeds first.  However, she will not use weedkiller as she likes the birds in the garden and obviously doesn't want to harm them.  Is there a bird friendly weed killer?

I personally don't know of one, but when I must spray I use a glyphosphate based spray and I use it just as the evening turns dark, when birds and bees are back in their nests. The spray can dry within an hour and there's no trouble by morning. Just make sure no pets eat the sprayed areas.
