Rambling rose - yellowing leaves
« on: October 04, 2011, 19:04 »
Hi all,

Bought a rambling rose recently and potted it in some Homebase general purpose compost.

A lot of the leaves are turning yellow now, its happening quite fast. Is this just because its autumn or is it something more sinister?

Thanks.

Mine too --- got a potted one ready for planting on Thursday and suddenly no leaves.

I put it down to the sudden change of temperature

It is probably also hungry.  General purpose compost has nutrients for about 6 weeks of intensive growing.

Permanent plants like this should be in John Innes compost #3, which has a higher proportion of loam and retains nutrients well.

Repot it next spring and give it some rose fertiliser.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

In my opinion, like Yorkie says, it could do with a bit more food than a homebase compost, you could probably get away with giving it some toprose before winter, plus like Mos says, we are fast approaching winter so it could be ready to drop its leaves! :)

Update on this, it seems to have stabilised and some of its shoots have grown a fair few inches so everything seems fine!  :)
