Most veggies like as much sun as possible but you could try squash.  Blueberries do grow fine in our climate BUT they are lime haters - you need an acid soil for them. I've grown them well in large pots using ericaceous compost.

shade/blueberries

I like to grow lettuce in partial shade as it tends to wilt in full sun.
I also grow blueberries in big pots of ericaceous compost sunk into the ground with a two inch layer of sawdust on top. The roots need to be restricted otherwise the crop will be poor.
I took over an allotment  approx 2 1/2 years ago on my retirement. Although I find that time is at a premium,  I realy enjoy spending as much time as I can at the allotment..--JUDY

Do you think my blueberries will be happier in a pot then?  i took them out of pots year before last and put them in my mini soft fruit area with the new gooseberry and blackcurrant, and they only get half a dozen fruits on them.

I reckon its your soil acidity. Blueberries need an acid soil. You could try some sulphate of ammonia around them as this will boost both nitrogen and acid levels, or put a load of ericaceous compost around them.

Anyone else notice that this thread is 7 years old and the OP has not visited us since just after posting this?
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I always wondered why I never had much luck with blueberries.

Will they not fruit at all if the soil is not right?

Reuse, recycle?  ::)
Wizzy, blueberries need an acid soil and moisture to thrive, so I keep mine in pots filled with ericaceous (acid) compost.  Also, if you use tap water to water them, it can start to turn the soil alkaline, so rainwater is best.  If yours are already in the ground and you have alkaline soil, it may be worth waiting until later in the year and either potting them up or digging them up and re-planting with ericaceous (I'm sure there is a thread on here somewhere on how to do it).  It may help them if you give them a good ericaceous feed to keep them going (stuff for azaleas and rhodadendrons would be fine).  :)

Well my blueberries from way back then died anyway!  At first I put them in the ground, they didn't like that, then I tried them in pots with some ericaceous compost and followed different advice like putting some vinegar in the water, but they died anyway!
