Hi all,

I have built a new hen house in my run. It is much larger and a bit higher up.
I have closed off the old house entrance (I was going to convert it into a nesting box) and removed the ramp.

But they will not go up the ramp to the new house.
I have tried leaving barley seed trails, and putting nice fresh lettuce leaves in there and up the ramp to no avail.

Any tips?

Why not let them go to bed in the old house, then put them in the new house? Chances are once they've woken up in there and come DOWN the ramp they will work out how to get back up it...don't forget to keep the old house closed once they're in the new one

Well, my wife and I forcibly moved them into the new place tonight. We don't normally pick them up you see, they are not that used to us. Anyway we eventually!!! got them all in and I boarded up the door and will let them out in the morning.

I didn't think of moving them while they were asleep.... I know I don't like being woken up!

Often birds are much calmer in the dark. Think of the budgie in the cage with the cloth ove it.

If you find they are resistant to going in the new house tomorrow do as suggested just after they have gone to bed and once it's nice and dark.
