plum tree problems
« on: June 26, 2009, 17:31 »
Hi all, my father in law has a plum tree that has gone spotty!!! The leaves look healthy but exhibit yellow/red/brown spots one or two per leaf. Spots are about 5mm diameter and dont seem to be blistered. His neighbour has told him that its plum red spot but we have not confirmed this. Is there any way to tell what is causing it and if it is plum red spot which I believe is a fungal infection what is the best treatment. :(

Help, I bought two majorette fruit trees about two weeks ago: one plum one apple; the apple is absolutely fine but the leaves on the plum have gone spotty; see pic, my questions what is it?
is this something that is down to the garden centre that I got it from or could it have happened since?
and also can it be treated?

Have you been keeping it well watered?

Cheers,

Ive merged these two threads as they are both wanting the same answer from the sounds of it :D

Could be Plum Rust, Caused By Puccinia Pruni

Have a look at this page

http://www.gardenaction.co.uk/fruit_veg_diary/fruit_veg_mini_project_march_2f_plum.asp

Probably needs to be sprayed with a fungicide.

Thanks for that Aunty, just read up on it but I'm still not sure if I have any recompense against the garden centre, it says hygiene is important, but surely I haven't had it long enough for that to be a problem? OH is not happy it was his birthday present  :(
