Just baught myself an engine powered strimmer, WOW. 8)

I had 2ft long grass around my plot, i now have 2" grass around my plot. :D

It was £49.99, 35cc 42" cut edge, from Argos.

If you were ever thinking of getting a strimmer this would be the one to get it's great, i think i'l call it Ermintrude, it eats grass like you wouldn't believe

Sounds a great little machine - I've got an electric strimmer but no good for an allotment and so much trouble messing around with the cable we just use shears in the garden.

Shears were my first choice, but after about 2 hours i had only cut adout 3 square metres, so i gave it up as a bad idea and parted with the cash.

I think i'm going to get a rotavator next, the hoe is even harder work than the shears.

Doesn't everyone like the magic roundabout.

petrol strimmer

I've just bought a Ryobi petrol strimmer and it's brilliant - much lighter than the hire shop version (brushcutter) and a godsend on my plot where the grass has been over my head - can't find enough stuff to strim - though I might just be putting off getting down to some seriously hard work!

I've never seen any great virtue in doing things the hard way - mechanical strimmers, rotovators etc  enable you to keep an allotment without it becoming a 'job'.

Luckily the grass on my plot hasn't needed a strimmer :)

I have got a blister from the hoe though!
