Hi all,if you like French Beans try the climbing variety COBRA, they will grow as tall as runner beans and will crop continuously if picked every other day.

Been growing Cobra for my entire allotment life (5 years) they are a very good crop, in fact the wife wanted another freezer just for them, even the neighbours shut there curtains if they see a bag full being strained out the car.

No Shaun they`re green and straight and we`re cropping here `til october and the first(and only)frost, freeze well and grow nicley in a small space up a wigwam.I also planted later a few dwarf french beans round the others and they took up no extra space and also cropped quite well into oct/nov sheltred by the cobra.Sorry, most importantly the cobra tastes delicious and just needs toping to remove any slight string.

Try as I might ...

... I just find that once frozen they lose so much taste and texture, I prefer a smaller crop that I can cope with, and to try and eat veg in season from the plot ... really there's only me and my son, so we don't need doodles of the stuff anyway.

I tend to give my excess veg to my neighbours, friends and family They are always grateful of a few beans - beat the ones from the Supermarkets hands down! Also helps to cut down on food miles.
