Hi Everyone,

Recently decided to have a go at growing some veg and herbs in the garden. We have only got a very small garden that is completely paved, so I can only use containers.

I have bought a plastic greenhouse / seed trays / pots / containers etc.

I have ordered seeds from Suttons, and I seem to have plenty of things to grow through the summer. Any ides of what I can easily grow in containers for winter? (I have got Brussels and Spring Cabbage)

Any other advice is most welcome!!!  :oops:

I've just cluster-sown the early beet (e.g. Pronto, Detroit) and carrot (e.g. Parmex, Paris Market) in modules, <6 carrot seed, 3 beetroot, on a sunny windowsill. Once the plants are established, they'll be transplanted into containers and come Easter Day I hope to have the first baby veg for the table. You can re-use the containers for roots for a season if you sow in succession i.e. every ten days or so.

Best advice? Sow little and often! For most seeds outdoors, it's well worth while waiting until the soil has warmed sufficiently and most of the wild weather is over, probably mid-March here. But get some beet and carrot in - if they fail, you've only lost a handful of seed and gained some experience!
